January 16, 2005

As I left you last week, there were gales blowing across a large part of Britain. They continued, for the most part, throughout Sunday and Monday. Granted, they were not as strong as on Saturday, but there was still damage wrought by the high winds. Sunday was MUCH colder than Saturday had been, and on Monday it was about the same.

I had developed a bit of a stuffy nose/head and a cough, and I worked Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning, and then gave up Wednesday afternoon and went home and tucked myself into bed with some medicine! I stayed home on Thursday as well, and finally the coughing began to abate. On Friday I was back at work. After work, I came home and decided that I best take it easy, as I had a wedding to attend on Saturday. The weather had been pretty nice the rest of the week, and the forecast had been for it to be cold, but dry and sunny.

What a shock when I awoke on Saturday, pulled back the drapes and saw dampness and grey clouds! Well, too bad, as I had errands to run before the wedding ceremony. I was to go to the evening reception; so I got myself into town, and I did some vegetable and fruit shopping at Newgate Market, then took myself to City Screen to see “Vera Drake”, a very moving film. I had some time before the movie; so as the pub was pretty full at the cinema, I took myself next door to Bar 36 for a delicious lunch of salad and a wrap of shredded duck and hon soi sauce with sprouts! Then I left the cinema, walked back home, and began to decide what I would wear. Got myself ready and off I went with my neighbor, Kelly Johnson, to the Elmbank Hotel for the reception of Jo Selby and Ollie Mountain, or rather, Mr. and Mrs. Mountain now. What a lovely bride she made, and what a beaming groom! We all had a very enjoyable time drinking, visiting, eating, dancing, etc. About 11pm I decided to head home, and there was my Local taxi company cab waiting for me. A thoroughly enjoyable time.

Sunday dawned bright and chilly, and I walked into town and took a bus (!) (my first one!) to Clifton Moor Centre where I encountered Tracey Reid. She'd also been at the reception, and then off we went to see “Vanity Fair” at the cinema. It's quite a lavish and good production of Thackery's book. Afterwards, she headed home (she lives out there), and I walked back to get my bus into town. A good time!

So here I am, getting ready to start preparation for dinner, and completing this episode for you. I hope you all have a wonderful week. The best to each of you!

Love,

Denny
