January 21, 2007

What a week of weather we had here! There were predictions of snow for several days, lots of rain, wind, then the occasional time of sunshine and stillness.

Monday and Tuesday were cold, wet and windy, and on Tuesday I was off to acupuncture. Had a good session, and then I hurried home to get out of the bad weather and back to the comfort of home.

Wednesday didn't fare much better, but we did have times of sunshine and stillness, and it seemed to even warm up a bit.

Thursday the wind came, as predicted. There were gusts of up to 80mph along with some rain, highways were closed, trucks were overturned, fences blown down, roofs came off sheds, homes and other buildings, signs were blown down and flying around in the street, train service was disrupted for many hours, flights were cancelled or delayed for a considerable time, part of the roof of a school collapsed, etc. Not a good day for most of the north of England, or for the country in particular. The wind was whistling through my windows, but I didn't venture out after work. I just came home and stayed put!

Friday dawned still and clear. It was as if nothing had happened. Granted, it was cold, but nothing like it had been the day before, for which we were all very thankful.

Saturday it was miserable; wet and windy for awhile. I trudged into town and got a few things done, and by the time I left, it was sunny! I picked up Donna Gale in the afternoon, and we went to see Babel, which we both declared excellent. A truly gripping, moving film. Afterwards, we walked over to Frankie & Benny's for a touch of America, what with their USA-style food, which was very good! Afterwards, I took Donna home, then it was home for me and for me to do my ironing.

Today I was up and made a Tres Leches Cake to take later in the day to Peter Gibson and Gareth Dadd's home. They had invited a number of us over for Sunday lunch, and I wanted to get it made and chilled before leaving. Darren Sage picked me up about 12:30pm and off we headed, the day lovely!

We arrived, and after a bit 17 of us sat down for a lovely lunch of turkey, lamb, beef, onion gravy, horseradish sauce, Yorkshire puddings, Brussel sprouts, cauliflower, parsnips, roasted potatoes, and for dessert my Tres Leches and a Sherry Trifle. All this food was followed by an assortment of cheeses, fruit and biscuits. Darren and I left around 5:30pm and had had a wonderful time. Such a nice way to end the weekend!

I hope you all had a good week, and I hope all is going well for all of you.

Love,

Denny
