January 23, 2005

Oh, a pretty cold week, with some snow flurries, etc. In fact, Monday found us with snow on the ground! Not a lot, and it was gone before long, but later in the afternoon, there was a large snow flurry, but it was too warm for it to stick to the ground. Nice, though!

Thursday I went to lunch at Fulford Arms pub with Lynne Gill, the "other American" at Corries. We had a nice catch up, as we'd not really seen each other to chat since before Christmas. She and her husband, Arthur, had moved into their home the purchased prior to Christmas, and she was telling me what all they are doing to it, etc. Sounds like a great deal of work, but they are so happy to finally have a place of their on, and good for them!

Friday I hurried home and then walked to Lawton Henry's to get my hair cut. It was good to see him, and to find out about his and Louise's Christmas, and also to see my "niece", Scilla, their Jack Russell terrier. She was so excited to see her "Uncle Denny"!! We had a good visit, and then it was time for me to walk over to Wetherspoons to meet up with the rest from work. As I walked in one door, I saw Bruce Corrie, Richard Kirby, Paul Cain and Mike Kendall come in through another. Bruce and I had a long catch up, as I'd not seen him since his return from Finland. He'd gone for 4 days with 2 friends, and they'd been dog sledding, snowshoe hiking, etc., north of Helsinki. They feasted on bear stew, reindeer prosciutto, etc., and he said they had a really good time; although it was bitterly cold. Granted, they were well prepared for the cold, what with their personal gear and the gear provided by the company, and that the experience was awesome! We all had a good visit, and then in came Teri Rhodes and Nikki Laube, all dressed up for a night on the town! Rachel Addison arrived, and it was so good to see her, although we didn't have long enough to visit, as Teri, Nikki and I were off to the Red Lion. We walked down there and of course, it was good to be "back home". Sue the landlord was there, and she came over and had a drink and a visit with us. Finally, Teri and Nikki were headed on into town, and I decided I best go home! I got home about 9pm, and just had a nice evening in after that.

Saturday I drove round to collect Liz Kirby, and we went to the Toby Carvery close to ASDA. It was delicious!! We'd heard good things about it, as it had been closed for some time and refurbished and now reopened, and all of the things were true. Delicious carvery, wonderful vegetables and homemade Yorkshire puddings. We had steak & Guinness Ale Pie, which was wonderful, along with the puds and veggies. We were stuffed when we left! We then ran some errands, did some shopping, and by then it was late afternoon. I took Liz back home, and then I came home. I decided to go to the movies to see “Million Dollar Baby”, but I arrived to find I'd misread the time! It'd been on for an hour! So, back home again.

Sunday I got up and did some cleaning around the flat, ironing, etc., and then headed back to the cinema at Vue in Clifton Moor. THIS time I made SURE I had the time correct. What a great movie, and Hilary Swank is outstanding. Anyway, now I am home, it is cold, and the wind is blowing, and there have been reports that possible snow will be falling again. I hope so! So hope you all had a good week, and that this coming one will be good as well.

Love,

Denny
