What
a cold week we have had. Temperatures were close to freezing
or below all week, the wind blew, the rains came one day,
but we made it just fine.
On Tuesday I met Gill Barker at the Victoria
Arms pub for lunch. It was so nice to catch
up with her, as I'd not seen her since before I went back
to Texas for Christmas. We had a good time, and then it
was time to return to work. That afternoon, I was off to
the Northern
College of Acupuncture for my treatment.
I felt so much better afterwards!
Wednesday after work, one of my neighbors, Angel Pentalosa,
and I went to El
Gaucho restaurant. He is from Spain, and
his wife, Maribel, is from Medellín,
Colombia; so they give me a chance to practice my Spanish.
She is still in Colombia; so we went to dinner and had a
delicious meal and a wonderful time. One of the waitresses,
a cousin of the owners, is from Spain, and Angel and she
had a good time chatting.
Thursday I went to Lawton
Henry's to have my hair cut and to visit
with all there and hear what had been going on with all
of them since I'd not seen any of them since I had returned
from Texas. Afterwards, I went to the supermarket to pick
up a few things.
Friday was a busy day, and then when it was over, I was
back at my place getting ready to go to Nicky Laube and
Mike's engagement party. I walked to the Red
Lion where I was to meet Sue, the manager,
and Nicky's mum, Judith, who had flown over from Spain.
We shared a taxi to the Groves Workingmen's
Club, where the party was held, and what a
good time! Good food, good drink, dancing, and there were
loads of people. Peter Gibson, Teri Rhodes and her partner,
Gary, Rachael Longhorn and Simon Gallantree, Ellen Douglas
and Tim, Maria McMurray, Sue and Vernon, Owen and Kat, Bess
and Arthur Rhodes, and we all had a great time! Sue, Judith
and I left a bit after midnight, and I fell into bed!
I felt a bit delicate on Saturday (could it have been the
ale I drank???!), and I finally made it out of the flat
and into town. It was sunny but very cold! I did a bit of
shopping, then headed out to Clifton
Moor to see “Jarhead”.
It was a good film. I came back and went to Louise's salon
to get a manicure, then walked back home. By this time it
was dark, and the cold was setting in. I decided that it
would be a good thing to stay home and have an early night.
Today I awoke to heavy frost on the rooftops and on the
ground. I dressed and headed to church,
wearing my topcoat and a muffler and gloves. There was a
definite crunch on the sidewalks as I walked, but the gritters
had thrown grit on the walkways; so no problems there. After
church I drove out to ASDA to
get petrol for my car and to get the things I'd forgotten
to purchase. Then it was home.
Here's hoping all is well with you all. Take care.
Love,
