January 30, 2005

We sure had a busy week at work!

There were some changes by the High Court, and now there will be "fast track" offers to many of the miners; therefore, we had to let our clients know - thousands of them! We were able to get it done, and then the calls started coming from our clients. We were pooped on Friday afternoon!

I met up with Paula Downing at the Red Lion on Friday after work, and it was a good time, as she and I had not had the opportunity to really sit down and talk since well before Christmas! We were really gabbing along, when in came Bruce Corrie and joined us. Paula had not seen him, either, since before Christmas, and we all three had a really good time visiting. About 8:30pm we got taxis and headed home, having enjoyed our evening of camraderie.

Saturday morning I met Liz Kirby at the train station, and we were off to Doncaster on Virgin Trains. It's just a short 25 minute trip, and it we arrived a bit after 10 am. We'd decided to go there after hearing about the wonderful fish market they had there. I was extremely interested in buying some prawns, i.e. shrimp. They call bay shrimp "prawns" over here, and that's mainly what you get. As a friend once said to me, "They ought to put all those bay shrimp back in the bay, and let them grow up!" Well, we wandered around and finally found what we thought was the best deal, and I wound up getting 14 pounds of them! Granted, they have their heads on, and need to be peeled, but that's okay. I will sure have a bunch for a good shrimp fry, along with salad and baked potatoes, and I've already promised friends they can join in. We bought some delicious fish cakes, and an octopus for Bruce Corrie, who is planning to make Alaska Octopus Gumbo. Hmmmm....... We walked around the rest of the market, and I must say, when we got to the fruit and veg area, it reminded me of Venezuela, how they were hawking their produce! Except in Maracaibo, it would have been bras and underwear!!! We both were tickled when we saw a sign saying "Exotic Tropical Fruit...Bananas!" Whatever.

My back had been bothering me, and I'd been for a session of acupuncture here in York, which seemed to do a great deal of good. Well, as we were wandering around, there was an acupuncture clinic! I went in and received another treatment, some herbs and oils, and sure enough, my back is much better. We had a late lunch at an Aussie pub there, and then strolled back to the train station for our return trip. We got in a taxi for our trip back, and lo and behold, our taxi broke down. He could only stay in one gear. We made it to my place, deposited my things, and I called my friends, Local Taxi. Sure enough, they came to get us, and off we went to Huntington to deliver the octopus. We had a nice visit with Bruce, Sally and Alexander Corrie, and then Bruce took us home. A fun and productive day!

Today I wandered into town as it was a lovely bright day. People have been remarking how it is starting to get lighter when we leave work, and so soon, we won't be leaving in the dark! Anyway, I went to Newgate Market and bought some things, then headed back home to do my weekly ironing.

All in all a good week. Hope you are all doing well.

Love,

Denny
