This
past week was a busy one for me. I worked on Monday, and
then Bruce came round after work, and we had a good visit.
He left, and I began to get packed and organize, as I was
leaving early the next morning for Manchester
for a 2-day course.
I was at the tran station at 6:30am for my Trans
Pennine Express (which it ain't!) to Manchester.
All went well, and I arrived in Manchester to heavy frost
on the ground. I hopped in a taxi and off I went to the
Renaissance
Hotel, where the course was being held,
and where I was staying. Surprise! My room was ready and
waiting for me; so I went up, freshened up, and then back
down I went to register. This course was on Employment
Law. We were a group of 12 from all over the northern
part of the country. There were people from Stoke-on-Trent,
Birmingham,
Liverpool,
a number from Manchester, Huddersfield,
Leeds and of course,
yours truly from York. The course was very intense, and
very good! The person in charge did an excellent job. Granted,
we were tired each day, but we enjoyed the course and certainly
went away with a great deal of new knowledge.
On Wednesday we finished the course a bit early, and I caught
a train back a bit before 5pm. I got home and unpacked,
put on a wash, got dinner and watched a bit of TV, and then
it was bed for me.
Thursday it was back to work for me, and many wanted to
know how the course had been, the trip, etc. I had a bit
of a snuffly nose, but I figured it would be okay.
Friday came and went as usual, and our weather continued
to be cold. We were around freezing all week during the
days, and a bit below at night. I decided I was not going
out after work, as I felt a bit tired, and my snuffly nose
seemed to get worse.
I awoke Saturday morning with a stuffy nose, runny eyes,
etc. A full-blown cold! I started on vitamin C, oranges,
tea with honey, etc. I dragged myself to town to do some
errands, and then I got in my car and headed to The
Vue, where I was to meet Rachael Longhorn to see “Munich”.
On my way there, I received a message from her that she
wouldn't be able to come, as she had viewings. She is selling
her home, and the estate agents don't do the viewings on
Saturday; so she had to be there. Certainly understood,
but sad, as she and I had been planning to see this film
together for weeks. As I'd already started out there, I
continued, and I enjoyed the film. I decided, as long as
I was there, to go see “North
Country”, being afraid it might not last
longer than one week. I was glad I did, as it, too, was
excellent. I drove back home, heated up some chicken broth
and had more oranges and vitamin C, and then a hot toddy,
and to bed.
Sunday I first awoke at 3am with a stuffy nose, then again
at 4, etc. I finally got out of bed around 10am. I had a
tea, oranges, etc., used my nasal spray, etc. I finally
felt human enough to rally myself and get ready. Liz Kirby
was coming round to pick me up, and we were going looking
at things for the flat. We first did a bit of shopping,
then off we went to see about carpeting. We found two we
liked, and they will be out on Monday to do measurements
on Monday. So that's good. We'd tried to go to the place
that makes shutters, but they are closed on Sundays. Oh
well. Then back home for me. I had purchased Lemsip,
and I made myself a cup of it, settled down to watch some
telly, and promptly fell asleep! I've just awakened, and
I feel much better! Hooray!
So that's been my week. How was yours? I hope this letter
finds all of you doing well.
Love,
