After
bragging about what lovely weather we had for the last couple
of weeks, it changed with a vengeance. We had very cold
and rainy weather, and then snow on Thursday. The snow came
down fast and furious during the morning, and then let up
on the afternoon. Some was still there on Friday morning,
but the sun came out a bit and took much of it away.
Anyway, on Tuesday after work, I bundled up and went into
town to City
Screens to meet Donna Gale to see Notes
On A Scandal. What a good film! Go see it! The
acting is outstanding and kept us gripped throught out the
film.
Afterwards,
Donna said she fancied something spicy. I suggested we go
to the Royal
Dragon, as it was close to her place and
to mine. We made our way there, and we both enjoyed Szechuan
dishes along with a side order of Singapore
Vermicelli. A very enjoyable meal! Afterwards, we headed
home, and we could tell the temperature was dropping.
On Thursday, snow had been predicted for the afternoon.
On the TV that morning, there were stories of roads and
schools closed down south, airports closed, flights delayed
or cancelled, etc. Well, at about 11am, the snow stared
falling with great force and large flakes and stayed on
the ground. By lunch we were well covered with the beautiful
white stuff. However, the afternoon saw the snow stop, and
it seemed, when we left work, to be warming up!
Lil Sutton
and I went to Toto's
Restaurant
to meet Gill Barker, whom we were feting with a belated
birthday dinner. She and her husband, Chris, had been in
Spain visiting her mother for her actual birthday, and this
was the first time we had had to get together with her.
We had a wonderful meal, and a delightful time catching
up with her. Afterwards, we all headed home.
Friday was a cold and grey day, and the sun was just a bleary
dent in the leaden sky. That evening it started to rain,
and then more on Saturday. Heavy skies, cold weather....that
kept ME indoors! I'd planned to head out, but decided against.
A friend of mine, Rob Hill, who used to live in London,
had moved to Oxford and was planning to come up on Saturday.
We talked, and the roads down his way were fine, and explained
that we had very cold temperatures and rain, but he came.
After all, he's English. He KNOWS about this weather and
driving! We had a nice visit, and then he left this morning.
We promised to do better about staying in touch, as it's
been quite awhile since we had been. He'd searched me out
through mutual friends.
After he left, Liz Kirby carme round, and we went to Currys
to buy me a new vacuum. We found a Morphy
Richards 1600 which really seems to do the job. We tried
it out when we got here. That poor little thing I had just
couldn't stand up to the pressures of the new carpet. So
now the carpet really gets a cleaning!
The sky
had turned bright and sunny and the temperature had risen.
Afterwards, happy with our purchase, we headed to Toby
Carvery for a typical Sunday lunch to
celebrate our success. She brought me back home, and now
the weekend is nearly over. Ready now, to start the next
week.
Hope all is well with you all.
Love,
