We
had a busy week at work. There were three adverts running
in three national newspapers for the asbestos department;
so a number of us were recruited to help take the telephone
inquiries that came in on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
We had over 500 calls on Monday, which dropped off to a
bit over 300 on Tuesday and less on Wednesday. However,
the calls were still coming in the rest of the week.
On Tuesday I was off to the Northern
College of Acupuncture for my regular
session. Things are going well with my shoulder and my back,
I'm happy to say! Afterwards, I headed home and just prepared
dinner and watched tv.
Wednesday afternoon the man from Ilkley
Cane and Blind came over to measure and
discuss the shutters for the living room and the bedroom.
I think it will be lovely when they are done. He told me
he sends the information to the company in China on Thursdays,
and 3 days later, the shutters are on a boat back to the
UK! They arrive within 3 weeks from order date, which is
good.
Our weather had been cold, but on Thursday it became even
colder. From then through Saturday, the morning temperature
was -6° Celsius (21.2° Farenheit). Yes, it was even
cold for me. The wind was blowing, and it was certainly
nice to be warm and toasty inside. I met Gill Barker and
Darren Sage at the Rose
and Crown on Thursday for lunch. Gill
is having trouble with her hip, but massage and therapy
is helping her through it.
Friday I awoke and saw ice on the River
Foss, outside my windows. Not covering it, but in large
areas and on the banks. That afternoon, as we were working,
down came snow! It had been threatened we would have it
for a couple of days, but it just stayed on the other side
of the Moors,
in Whitby,
Scarborough,
etc. Well, it came down in buckets, with the wind blowing.
It was lovely to watch. In a short period of time we had
about 6 inches. All lovely and whiteness covering everything.
A group of us had planned to go out after work, but that
certainly changed! Instead, Liz Kirby came back to mine,
and we had a couple of drinks. We could look out and see
the ice on the river, the snow on the trees, house tops,
gardens, benches, etc. So beautiful!
Saturday I was up and in town walking in it, and feeling
the crunch underfoot. I got some shopping done, and then
I came back home. The sun was out, the wind was just a breeze
- not the force it had been - and people were bundled up
and scurrying along. Much of the snow melted under the sun,
but there remained remnants.
Sunday morning I awoke to a lovely bright day, and got myself
ready to go to church.
It was a cold, crisp day, and there was still snow around,
though not a great deal. After church, I did a bit more
shopping, then went to the Vue
to meet Grant Morton to see Syriana.
It was a good insight into the workings of politicians and
oil companies with foreign oil producing countries. I have
come home now, and I will just be doing my usual Sunday
night stuff.
Here's hoping your week has been good, and that you are
all doing well.
Love,
