Journal Entry: March 14, 2004

Work has kept its' fast pace, and we all were looking forward to the weekend, that is for sure!

We had interesting weather this past week. Monday through Wednesday, it was really warming up, and then Thursday it started snowing. It didn't stay on the ground, but we could see it from the windows. Again on Friday we had some snow, but fortunately, it didn't stay on the ground, either, as I had to drive to Leeds/Bradford International Airport. More on that later....

After work on Monday, I met Paul Cain and Rachel Addison at the Red Lion, and we chatted about their impending trip to Florida, and I gave them my thoughts and the names of friends for them to contact where they will be while there. They are very excited, as this will be Paul's first trip to the US.

Not much else during the week, except for work and more work, but the claims are still coming in, and we continue to work to get them lodged. The 31st is fast approaching, and we will have everything ship-shape for then, I am sure.

On Friday, I took off for the airport to pick up John Curran, who was arriving from Dublin. I stopped in Harrogate to have dinner with Ian Gill at the Kestrel Inn, a nice pub just off the highway to the airport. We had a good visit and a good meal, and then he pointed me in the right direction to the airport. John's flight was delayed due to fog, and there was some talk it might be diverted to Manchester! No way would I have been able to get there to pick him up, but fortunately, it landed, albeit a bit late. We hurried to the car and drove back into town. First stop was the Red Lion, and then we were on to Wetherspoons to meet up with Paul and Rachel. After that, we took them home, and then wended our way back to the flat.

Saturday, we did a wander around York, taking him to meet Paula Downing at Marks & Spencer, down the Shambles, over to the oldest pub in York, Ye Olde Starr Inn, then the Minster, and then to Kennedy's for lunch. We then went to La Piazza to make reservations for dinner that evening. I was planning to take him down by the River Ouse and to the Jorvik Centre, but he was a bit tired, and we came back and had a rest prior to getting ready for dinner. We had a delightful time and a delicious meal at La Piazza, and Emilio (the owner) and the staff couldn't have been nicer to us. We were totally stuffed as we walked back to the flat.

Sunday was a very dreary and rainy day, and we went to ASDA to pick up a few things, and the to Bruce and Sally Corries' home for coffee and a visit. Next, we headed by to see Liz Kirby, who was to have gone to lunch with us. However, she was to take her husband, Richard, to the pub to watch the football game, and he was at the gym. Therefore, we continued on and picked up Paula, and we headed into town. We went to the Minster Arms for a pint, and then we walked across the street to Plunketts for lunch. They have Mexican food, and not bad, either! I had pork fajitas, and John had chicken fajitas. We all shared a starter of nachos, and Paula was dying for a cheeseburger, and that's what she got! We dropped her back home a bit after 4pm, and then we came back for him to pack up. We left for the airport about 6pm, and I am just back after getting him there. We had a nice weekend, and now, it is time to get ready for next week.

So there you have it, another week here in York. You all take care.

Love to you all,

Denny
