Hallelujah!
The scheme ended on
Wednesday, and we had lodged all we possibly could! Granted, at 4:45pm
the government agency we deal with called to say that some of the
faxes that had been sent that MORNING, saying all the pages hadn't
come through, and we had confirmation it had. Fortunately, there were
very few, and these were re-sent.
We had glorious weather for most of the week, and people are beginning
to sit out in the beer gardens at lunch and after work. It got a bit
chillier as the week went on, and by the weekend, it was cold and
rainy. But no problem, we carried on.
On Monday I met up with Rachel Addison, Paul Cain, Karen Whiteley
and Mike Kendall at the Red
Lion. I couldn't stay for long, as my plumber was
coming around with the tiler to measure the bathroom. Hopefull, that
will all be accomplished while I am away in Bilbao.
On Thursday night, Kevin Iresom was around to try to sort out my digibox.
It is making blipping noises, the picture gets distorted, etc. Hopefully,
he has it sorted, and I fixed a quick meal for us, for all his work.
He really appreciated it!
Friday I met up with the same group as Monday, plus Richard Kirby
and Martina and Martin Hogg at The
Old White Swan. No one was planning to be out late,
as the next day was the semi-final match between Arsenal
and Manchester
United. Rachel is a stalwart Arsenal fan, and Richard
is THE Man U fan! Of course, they were having a go at each other,
all in good fun, and they planned to be watching it together right
there at the Swan the next day. Following
that contest was the Grand
National, the granddaddy of steeplechase racing. As Karen
said, even your gran will put a quid (pound) on it. She has a friend
who had a horse in it, and she and Mike allowed as how, if it rained
the night before, it stood a good chance. Naturally, we all placed
a bet on it. It didn't even show, but fortunately, little money was
lost.
Also on Friday, the Evening
News, which is the local paper here, carried a feature
article in the Business section on Corries'
move, and how we will all be under one roof. A nice article, and of
course, good publicity!
Saturday Liz Kirby and I went shopping and then to the movies to see
The
Passion of the Christ. Granted, the reviews have been mixed,
but we both felt it was a good movie but very brutal (but then, so
was so much back then). We had planned to go the Fulford
Arms pub, which is the closest one to the new offices,
but there just wasn't time. So back I came to the flat, and off she
went to finish dinner for Richard and her.
Sunday was a very grey, rainy day, interspersed with sunshine. As
Richard was off to the rugby match, Liz and I finally made it to the
Fulford. It seemed nice enough, prices
were good, and now we just have to try out the food. We shall see!
Next Thursday I am off to Bilbao to see Connie Kirkland. I am looking
forward to seeing her, and her sister, Kathy, who is supposed to be
there as well, plus visiting the Guggenheim
Museum there, and other attractions. Connie says
she has the entire 4 days planned out. Therefore, the update won't
happen until Monday evening, when I return.
We have now had a week of daylight saving time, and as usual, I don't
like it! I believe the US goes on it today. I feel as a state senator
from Tennessee stated when the state legislature was debating whether
or not to go on daylight saving time when he said, "Standard
time is God made time!" Nothing I can do about it but live
with it; so I shall, but I don't have to like it! Oh yes! I received
approval for me to vote absentee in the election this fall. HOORAY!
Take care all of you,
and have a wonderful Easter!
Love,
