April 15, 2007

What a wonderful week, especially since we had Monday as a holiday after Easter! I picked up Donna Gale on the morning, and we headed to Harrogate, about 18 miles away. We wandered around the city, and then we went to Cattlemen's Association, where we met up with Fiona, a friend who is teaching in Wales and was there for a conference. There was wonderful, friendly and smiling Andy again to get us comfortable. We had a great visit and a delicious meal. Fiona had to get back to her conference, and so Donna and I, thoroughly sated, made our way back to York. We got back here around 4pm, and the rest of the day was one of rest and relaxation.

Tuesday was back to work and telling each other what all we had done over the holidays. In the afternoon I was off for acupuncture and my back and shoulder felt much better for it. I came home after that and had a good rest!

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday everyone in my group worked through lunch, as we had an advert going. It seems that those who work for councils here in the UK - and that can include not only the staff in the buildings who work for them, but hospital workers, etc.- had not been paid the same. That is, women who are on the same pay grade were not getting the same pay as men doing different jobs but on the same pay grade. Therefore, they may now bring cases against the various Councils to rectify the situation, and of course, we are after those cases! We had a great number of phone calls, but by the end of the week, we were all a bit tired!!

On Thursday I had plans to go to dinner with Peter Gibson. We tried to go to Loch Fyne, but they were completely booked up until 10pm. Not for us! So we headed to our old faithful, El Gaucho. The food and service were, as always, wonderful. Our empanadas, chorizos and steaks were superb! I do not think you can beat Argentinian beef. Afterwards, we walked back to my place, said good night, and I came on up to the flat.

Our week had been one of glorious weather, and Saturday was no exception. I walked to town to go to Newgate Market and visit with Teri and Bess Rhodes, did some shopping, went to get some food stuff, etc., and then in the afternoon made my way to the Five Lions where I met up with Lynne Gill and her husband, Arthur. Lynne is a fellow American (Pennsylvania) with whom I worked before Bruce sold off part of the company. We had a nice visit sitting in the beer garden, as the weather was lovely!

Sunday was a very lazy day, until the afternoon, when Kate Addy called to invite me round to her and John Coulson's place. We sat in the garden, and they told me about their Easter in Paris, which was a wonderful time. It brought back fond memories to me of my times there. We had a nice time, and their garden looks so springtime: daffodils, croci, tulips, etc. in bloom. Then, it was time for me to return home. So here I am writing this missive for all of you.

I hope that you have all had a wonderful week. Our weather has definitely warmed up, the skies are clear and blue, there is a gentle breeze blowing, and it's so nice!

Love,

Denny
