April 17, 2005

I forgot to add last week that on Saturday was The Grand National, the world's most famous steeplechase race. Friends say that even their granmothers will put a fiver (£5) on it. Well, we had a lottery on it at work, and needless to say, the one I chose didn't win. There was a buzz going round about Clan Royal, who'd come in second last year. So I put a bet on that one to win and to show. A friend, Sonia, had drawn Hedgehunter in the lottery at work, and by the end of the week, Hedgehunter was at the top of the odds. No, I didn't bet on Hedgehunter, but I should have. He won, and Clan Royal didn't place. Oh well, what else is new? Last year, the horse with the most buzz, and the one a number of us bet on, didn't even start!! At least Clan Royal started, and was doing well, until one of the riderless horses cut across it's path, knocked it's rider off, and there went Clan Royal with the other riderless horse! Easy come, easy go.

Our weather has been pretty chilly this week, but it is warming up. Granted, we will never experience the heat of the south of the US (thank goodness!), or at least I hope not. On Tuesday I went to see my doctor, as my sinuses were draining as if they were Niagra Falls. She gave me a prescription for a nasal spray, and it seems to be working pretty good. Then it was off to acupuncture on Tuesday afternoon, and then to York District Hospital on Thursday. What a week for treatments. My doctor had spotted a mole/freckle (not sure what, yet), and she wanted it to be biopsied. So, it was to the hospital I went. Had the biopsy, and the dermatologist there spotted another, and she had it excised. So, now have to await the results. That's what comes from too many years of lying in the sun, living in the tropics and worshipping the sun god/goddess and not using sun block! Beware all of you!

Friday was a very cold and rainy day, and I just decided to head home after work. I had the carpet cleaner coming round on Saturday, and so it was time to get things moved and ready for him.

He arrived on time on Saturday, and by a bit after noon, he was through, and the carpet looked better. Not great, but better. I left shortly after he did, and I drove over to Paula and Nigel's home and picked up Paula. We went to Acomb, close to their home, and did some shopping at the green grocers, the butchers, etc. It's nice to go to a place where they still have the individual shops and get fresh produce. Afterwards, we headed to The Ainsty pub to celebrate our purchases, and to do some more visiting! I dropped Paula off and then headed back home. Things were still drying out, and I got dinner prepared, and then settled down to watch television.

Today was a lovely day, and I got up and headed to church. After church, I drove out to Bruce and Sally Corries so Sally could remove my bandages over my stitches. She said things were healing nicely. I then headed back into town and to the last day of the Bavarian Festival with my friend, Teri Rhodes. After we'd consumed a few and enjoyed our visit and a few hours of people watching, we bade goodbye, and I walked back home. Now, I'm sitting here writing to you all.

I hope things are well with you all, and have a great week!

Love,

Denny
