May 6 , 2007

Our week started off nice enough, with lovely spring weather. It was predicted that this weather would carry through until Sunday, when it would become cooler and possibly some rain. Well, over here they get it as wrong as often as they do in the US. Yes, it was nice, but come Friday it was grey and overcast and a chill wind was blowing!

On Tuesday Rachael Longhorn and I met up with Nicky Laube at The Terrace, a sports pub which used to be YO! for a short period of time, and prior to that was the Northern Wall. They'd done a nice job with the redecoration and with the food. We had a good time catching up with Nicky, as it had been some time since either of us had seen or talked to her. She's enjoying her new job, and that's a good thing. She was full of information about her job and about her life, and we all talked and talked. All too soon our lunch time was over, and Rachel and I had to hurry back to work.

I also received some very sad news on Tuesday. My mother called to say that my cousin, Robin Ball, had passed away. She's had a massive stroke and an operation, and after 14 days in a coma, she'd not recovered and her heart had not started beating on its' own. Although we didn't see each other that often, I will miss her greatly. She was always a source of joy and positivity, and her smile and laugh would always light up a room.

On Friday Lil Sutton and I headed to our usual, the Rose and Crown. There have been some changes to the menu there, and we each had a Caesar salad, which was delicious, with the addition of grilled chicken. They've done a good job on the menu. As I mentioned, Friday was a dull day weatherwise, and we were worried, as a number of us were planning to go to a bar-b-que at Karen and Jason Sinnott's home on Saturday.

Saturday dawned dull and grey. I had made a Tres Leches Cake on Friday after work for the bar-b-que, and I headed to Tesco to buy corn on the cob to prepare and take to the event. On my way back home, I went to York Theatre Royal to purchase tickets for Kate Addy, Sally Corrie and me for “The Boy Friend ”, which will be playing there later this month. From there I journeyed to Newgate Market and visited with Bess Rhodes. Teri was off doing some shopping; so I missed seeing her.

About 5pm, Nick Northrope and Vicky McQuade helped me to transport all my stuff (some folding chairs, cooler of beer, cake and the corn) to Nick's car, and he took us over to the Sinnot's home. There was Jason, getting the coals prepared for the cooking. The others arrived, and we all had a good time and plenty of good food. Jason prepared sausages, burgers, chicken, chicken kabobs, and steaks on the grill, as well as vegetarian sausages and burgers; there was potato salad, cole slaw, garden salad, baked potatoes and a Black Forest Cake and my cake. Needless to say, no one went away hungry! We all had a good time, and about 10:30 or so, the party began to break up. I shared a taxi with Tracey Riby, and I got home about 11.

Today has just been one of rest and relaxation. I'm meeting up with friends at 7:30 for dinner at the Royal Dragon. We have Monday off as a holiday; so that's a good thing! We always look forward to a long weekend.

That's it for this week. Take care, all of you.

Love,

Denny
