May 7, 2006

What a week this has been!

Monday was a bank holiday for May 1 (May Day), and I went round to see Paula Downing and Nigel Naylor in the morning. They'd been to New York City while I was in Athens, and we had a great deal of catching up to do. From there I went to see Nicky Laube to take her her birthday present, and then on out to Richard and Liz Kirby's place. They were borrowing some suitcases from me for their trip to Malta tomorrow. As always, we had a nice visit. It was getting on in the afternoon, and Richard was to be away for a football match in Manchester, and Liz invited me to return for dinner, which I gladly accepted! I went round about 7:30pm, and she had prepared a wonderful salad, seafood lasagna and a delicious dessert! I came home sated!

Tuesday was a work day, and we all greeted each other with excitement and telling what all we had done over the long weekend. Of course, some of us had seen each other on Saturday at Angela's wedding, but it was nice to hear what everyone had been doing the rest of the time. Also on Tuesday, I had a call from my joiner, to tell me that a new person was coming around to see if he could do my paint job! Hooray! Well, he arrived, Terry Downes, Downes Decorators, and what a nice, personable person! He said he'd start on Thursday, and he would finish on Saturday! I was so excited!!

I spent the rest of Tuesday evening and Wednesday after work clearing out some things to make it easier for him to move furniture, etc. to get to things. He was here, and on Saturday his brother, Tom, came with him. They have done a wonderful job! I am so pleased that they did it, and the place looks so nice and clean!!

I didn't go out on Friday, as the painters were to be here for 8am on Saturday, and sure enough they were. They finished up about 7:30pm that day, and then we all sat down and had a few beers. I'd been out for a large part of the day running errands, visiting people, etc.

Today, Lil and Drew Sutton came in from Selby about 9:45am to help move all the furniture out of the flat and into the back of the offices of Corries, just in front of me. What an undertaking, but it's cleared for the carpet people to come tommorrow. Smart Carpet will be here sometime Monday. They are to call between 9:30am and 10am tommorrow and let me know when they will be here.

My place is just a mess! The kitchen is piled up with boxes, bags, etc., and the only furniture left is a small table with a small TV on it and my sofabed. I will sleep on that tonight, and then tomorrow we will roll the TV and this computer out of here. Granted, after the furniture comes back in and is all sorted, I still have all those bags and boxes to unload! Days of work, after days of work in the office! Oh well, it will all be worth it.

Hope your week has gone well. BY THE WAY!!! Chuck Clausen, who supports and maintains this website, will be traveling in China from May 10 until May 29. Therefore, the updates for this site just might be delayed. Not to worry. He's a former "Maracucho", like me, and an ex-EBVer, like me; so it will get done. Hey, were it not for him, you'd never get all the pictures, links, etc!!!

Have a good one.
