May 9, 2004

Well, Tuesday dawned, and it was back to work.

We had had a glorious weekend, and it is so nice to see the lilacs, blossoming cherries, rape oil, wisteria, etc. in bloom. Everything is awakening now that spring is here. However, after a lovely weekend, it turned dark, cold and damp for most of the week. When I arrived home on Tuesday, the ceiling man had been and had finished his work. HOWEVER, he'd not removed the towels from the towel racks, and they were covered in pink dust. So it was get them washed and dryed.

Wednesday after work Liz came round and we had a good visit. Jim, the sparky, turned up to take care of the lights in the bath. He was there until about 9:30pm, but when he left, he'd cleaned things up nicely, and boy did those new recessed lights make a difference. Now, let's just see when the rest will be done. Work is to start next Monday on the fitting of things, tiling, etc.

On Thursday the plumber, Wayne, said he was trying to get a "decorator" to the flat to do the ceiling. Come to find out, that's what they call a painter! Whatever, anyway, he didn't show, and didn't show the rest of the week. Now, he's supposed to come this coming week, and he needs to get the ceiling painted prior to the tile going on. Who knew this job would be so involved? Oh well, it's going.

Friday found me with a car booked out, and off I went back to Hemsworth to visit with some of the people I'd met. I didn't stay long, as it was bad weather, lots of rain, and I returned to York and went out to see Bruce and Sally. We had a really nice visit. After that, since ASDA is open 24 hours except on Saturday night, I decided to go to the market to do my shopping. What with Dale Brannon and Fran Bennett arriving on Wednesday, I needed to do some replenishing in the larder! With that done, I got home sometime after midnight.

Saturday was a lovely day, and I set off into town to do some more shopping. Afterwards, I went round to visit with Paula for a bit, and then back home. I just had a quiet evening at home.

Sunday morning, my friend Dave called to say he was on his way to do some work in York, and would I fancy breakfast? Of course! We had a proper English breakfast: bacon, eggs, sausage, toast, jam, hash browns, black pudding (I gave him mine!), and beans! Yep, beans! Anyway, we had nice visit, and he went off for about an hour's worth of work, then came back by for a visit and tea prior to heading home. I went BACK to the market, as I'd forgotten some things, and then got home and straightened things up. Peter called and said they'd put on a large shoulder of lamb, and would I like to come for dinner that evening. Of course! So off I went to Thormanby for a delicious dinner of lamb, mint sauce, Yorkshire puddings and gravy, roasted parsnips, carrots, potatoes, and cabbage. I'd brought some homemade brownies with Texas pecans in them, and some Cornwall cream ice cream. Were we ever sated after that! I just rolled in, and am getting ready to put myself to bed.

I hope all of you have had a great week, and Happy Mother's Day to all my friends who are mothers. Goodness knows, you deserve MORE than just one special day! Have a good week.

Love,

Denny
