May 21, 2006

After the excitement of last week, we had a rather quiet, normal week and weekend. Even the weather decided that it was time to become cloudy, chilly and rainy again.

On Monday we were talking about the excitement and fun we'd had on Saturday, and it was good to find that nearly every person who had been on the trip had wound up doing as I did, and just having a very lazy day on Sunday!

The rest of the week went on with very little excitement. Liz and Richard Kirby returned from Malta, telling of the fun they had, what all they had done, etc.

The joiner returned on Thursday to plane down the doors so they didn't drag on the carpet. That's good! Now, I just await the return of the painter to do the touch up work, and for the shutters to be fitted in the bedroom, once they arrive. Also on Thursday, Teri Rhodes and I were taking Peter Gibson to La Vecchia Suola for his birthday. Neither of them had been; so both were looking forward to it. Peter arrived at my place, and he was very pleased with the way things had turned out here. We had a drink and then our taxi arrived, and off we went. When we got there, there was Teri and her parents, Arthur and Bess, along with Gareth. The Rhodes trio had been to the races that day, and Bess and Arthur had wanted to stop by to say hello and share a drink with us. We had such a good time, and thus the evening started on a very high note!

The restaurant was packed, we had a wonderful table in the conservatory by the large window, and Peter was over-awed. Our service was good, and the food delicious. Gareth was telling us about his trip to Thailand, and he had a wonderful time. I ran into some friends from church there, and we had a nice chat. Their daughter used to attend school in this old school building. As our evening was winding down, the waiter brought Peter the "birthday surprise" I had ordered, and there was a candle in it. They announced, "Attenzione! Join us in wishing Peter a Happy Birthday!" The piano player launched into Happy Birthday, and the room erupted into song for him! A good ending to a great outing. We adjourned to the bar to await our taxi, and then it was home for all of us.

Friday was our final work day, and so many of us were looking forward to the weekend to just relax. I came home and did some cleaning up, and then decided on what all I was going to be packing. With things in order, I've now managed to do a bit of clearing out, and so I had the tops of the closets as well as parts of the bottoms of them.

Saturday I went to town and purchased some plastic storage boxes, and trudged back with them in the rain. I started on the closets and got a great deal done, and I labeled the boxes so I'd know what was where. That evening, I picked up Teri Rhodes and Donna Gale, and off we went to Frankie & Benny's for dinner before going to see The DaVinci Code. We had a good time, but I must agree that the suspense and action stop and start what with all the long speeches, and Tom Hanks seems so wooden! Then again, when was the last time a movie truly did justice to a book? Oh well, a good time with the lovely ladies. I dropped them off about 11:45 at their respective homes and journeyed on to mine.

Today has been filled with more throwing away, more packing, etc. I've just about finished, and now I have to tackle the ironing! Our weather is still grey and there's still been rain. A good day for staying inside!

Hope all is well with all of you.

Love,

Denny
