Spring
has still not sprung here in York. We had a grey, wet week,
again, with quite a bit of rain. However, that did not dampen
our spirits! Work and fun continued. We were all looking
forward to the weekend, as it would mean another Bank Holiday;
thus giving us off Monday. It used to be celebrated as Whitsunday,
but now it is just called a Bank Holiday.
On Thursday I went to the doctor to see how much weight
I had lost for this third month....9 pounds! She and I were
thrilled, which brings my total to over 2 stone (that equals
28 pounds, and I've now lost 29 pounds total!). Good news!
Friday finally arrived, and with it came me making preparations
for friends to come round for dinner. But first things first!
Lil Sutton, Tracey Riby and I had tickets to see the Rocky
Horror Show. We were meeting at Cafe
Uno across from York
Grand Opera House, where the show would be. I wore a
kapok-filled top that made me look very muscular, a short
blonde wig and a pair of jogging pants. No, no gold Speedo
for me! I was an OLDER Rocky! Tracey wore a short black
skirt, fishnet hose, black garter belt showing, a top, and
a French maid cap and was Magenta. Lil chose not to dress
up, but she wished she had! She was in jeans and a pullover.
We walked across the street after dinner and found hundreds
of folk in costume, at least 75% of the audience. What a
fun evening! Afterwards, we walked up to the Three
Tuns pub, where my friend, Donna Gale,
was working that night. Well, she had a laugh and enjoyed
our costumes and us. We then walked up to make sure Tracey
got a taxi, then Lil and I continued on to my place, and
I made sure she got off home okay.
On Saturday I was up and getting things ready for my first
dinner. Richard and Liz Kirby and Gill and Chris Barker
were coming over. I was serving salad (which I forgot to
serve! Old age, what can I say?), salmon marinated in a
sauce of honey, Dijon mustard and soy sauce, along with
mashed red potatoes with garlic and basil in them, baby
asparagus and Texas
Millionaire pie. Of course, they don't have crushed
pineapple here; so I had to crush it myself, and they don't
have Graham
Crackers here; so I had to make the crust from digestive
biscuits! But it all turned out well, and everyone had
a good time. People left a bit before midnight, and I loaded
the dishwasher, straightened things up, and headed to bed!
Sunday dawned and found me once again up and getting ready.
I cleaned the place, and then got busy preparing things
for dinner that evening. Rosie and Richard Fluin and Margaret
and John Walker were coming round. I prepared chicken
scallopini, salad (which I DID remember to serve!),
baby asparagus (yes, again! I love it so!), garlic noodles
and bread
pudding with bourbon sauce. They loved it all and ate
nearly all! We had a wonderful time, and I had prepared
Mojitos
(one of Rosie's favorites), and those went down well, as
well as the wine and beer. They all left a bit before 3am,
and what a fun time we had had.
So, today I have the last load going in the dishwasher,
a load of washing going, and I need to vaccuum, but that
will be me for the day. Sorry this missive is a day late,
but I hope you understand why I didn't have time to get
it done yesterday. I hope everyone has a safe and great
Memorial Day.
Love,
