We
had a good week at work, and of course, everyone was looking forward
to this long weekend. Thus, this episode is a day late! We had some
nice weather, for the most part, and the weekend has been glorious!
There was a bit of rain on Friday, but not to matter, the rest of
the weekend was beautiful.
On Tuesday I had my acupuncture, and I felt so much better for it.
I then headed to do some shopping, as my appointment had been late
in the day, and by the time I finished, it was well after 5pm.
Friday a group of us went to lunch at the Bay
Horse, and we were all talking about the upcoming
whole hog roast at Peter Gibson's on Sunday. The afternoon was spent
anticipating going out, as well as the upcoming weekend. After work,
Peter and I got a ride from Karen Whiteley down to Wetherspoons, where
we met up with quite a few others from work. We stayed there for awhile,
and then he and I walked up to the Red Lion, where we found Karen,
Rachel Addison, Paul Cain, Mike Kendall, and others, and then in came
more from Wetherspoons.
I left the group around 9pm and made my way home.
Saturday I was up and headed into town to pick up my dry cleaning,
do some shopping, and tried to find cornmeal. I had been told to go
to health stores, which I did, but they had polenta, not cornmeal.
One of those stores I wandered into had a lady working there from
the US, from Washington state. We had a nice visit, and then I set
off back home. I went on to the Royal
York Theatre where I purchased tickets to Little
Shop of Horrors for Sally Corrie and me. I decided to stop
at Il Paradiso deli to get a sandwich to
take home for a late lunch, and while waiting, I gazed at their shelves
of products. Sitting there, in plain site, were bags of cornmeal!
I asked Aldo if it WAS cornmeal, and he said yes, that it was a coarser
grind than polenta. Wouldn't you know it, I'd walked all over town,
and found it only a couple of blocks from me. Needless to say, I headed
home, happy as could be.
Sunday I was up and getting things prepared for some friends to come
over. We were having Pimm's
Cups prior to going to meet everyone for the trip to Thormanby.
30 of us had hired a bus to take us to the whole hog roast for Peter's
second birthday celebration. I had marinated the citrus fruits in
the Pimm's the night before, and I got myself ready to go and pick
up Liz Kirby, Nicola Laube and Oliver. When we returned, Rachael Longhorn
had arrived, and she had finished the preparation of the Pimm's. We
had several glasses, and while there, Lilias Sutton arrived and immediately
joined us! At 1:30 we taxied to Wetherspoons
with our beer, wine, gifts, etc., where we met up with the rest of
our group. The bus arrived, and we loaded onto it, and off we went
to The
Old Black Bull in Thormanby, the home of Peter and
Gareth. Well, people were certainly surprised to see the bus pull
up and disgorge all of us and our stuff. The day was glorious: sunny
and cool but not chilly. There were approximately 150 people there,
and the hog was well on its way to being roasted. We all enjoyed it
and the roasted vegetables and stuffing, as well as sherry
trifle, Pavlova
and chocolate cake. There was a bouncy
castle for the children, and lots to drink for the adults. At
9:00pm our bus arrived, and we wearily boarded it for the journey
home. Nikki, Oliver, Liz and I got off and headed to my place. As
Lil was staying over with me, Nikki and Oliver got a taxi from there,
and then it was time for bed.
We awoke this morning, and found another sunny, beautiful day. Lil
got ready and headed home, I did some cleaning, etc., and then headed
to Liz Kirby's home. We did some shopping, and afterwards it was back
to her place for beef stroganoff. Delicious! We did some visiting,
and now I am home, writing this account to you.
It's back to work tomorrow, but it has been an exceptional week and
weekend. Hope you all enjoyed your long weekend.
Love,
