June 5, 2005

Our lovely weather was gone this week!

Tuesday it rained all day and night, and then on Wednesday, there was the rain again. How fortunate we all felt we were to have had such glorious weather the weekend before, and how rare on a Bank Holiday weekend! Thursday the rain was on and off, but Friday brought us a bit of a respite for awhile, but the rains did return.

On Thursday I met Peter Gibson and Diane at the Vue, where we went to see Sin City. It was okay, but nothing I'd race back to see. We went to a late feature, and by the time it was over, we quickly said goodbyes and all headed home.

On Friday morning, my phone rang, and it was the installer from SKY who was to add SKY to my TV so I could get more channels. Well, of course, he couldn't do it. I'd called to have it installed, telling them I lived in a listed (historic) building, that I was on the fifth floor, there was no balcony, etc., etc. Of course, the lady said there would be no problem. I pointed out that the dish could not be on the roof, as there can be nothing added to the exterior of an historic building. No problem. I said I didn't want it situated so I would be the one paying and then others connect to it. No problem. I gave her the phone number of the manager, as I would be at work. Well, Wednesday I had a call at work saying they had the wrong address, it was believed. I checked it, and sure enough, they had 48 for my flat number instead of 58. I again checked to see if they had the manager's telephone number. On Thursday, as I was leaving for the cinema, the installer called to say when he would be there. He did not have the number of the manager! Well, he came, and sure enough, he couldn't connect it, had not been told about the lack of a balcony, that I was so high up, couldn't go on the roof, etc. So much for British efficiency! So, no SKY for me. At lunchtime, Liz Kirby, Dominique Morrissey and I headed to the Bay Horse for a delicious lunch.

As I had NOTHING really planned for the weekend, and I was so glad of it after 3 busy weekends, I was looking forward to a weekend of nothing but being lazy. I slept until nearly 10, and then got up and read the paper and had my breakfast and got myself dressed. My friend, Teri Rhodes, came round about 2pm, and we walked into town, stopping at Linfoot to pick up a pair of slacks I'd had cleaned. That place is amazing! They cut keys, repair suitcases and shoes, sell dance shoes, have a dance studio and take in dry cleaning. Now if I could just get my car serviced there..... Anyway, from there we walked on to Plonkers, where we had lunch. It sprinkled on us a bit, but not enough for us to care. We had a nice lunch and a nice visit, then we walked back to mine, and Teri headed home. I spent the rest of the day reading, watching telly, a video, etc. Just being lazy.

Today I had another lazy day, just doing nothing and what I wanted to do. It rained on and off all day, and it was nice to just relax, realizing I had nowhere to go, nothing to do, etc. So, that's me for this week. How was yours?

Love,

Denny
