June 10, 2007

What a week of weather! It started out quite chilly and windy, but as the week progressed, it got warmer and warmer, until the weekend saw very hot temperatures.

We had a busy week at work, and all went smoothly. On Tuesday I was off to Northern College of Acupuncture. Following that, we had a Residents' Council Meeting. I'm on the Council; so of course I was there. Fortunately, not too much haggling at this one, and the meeting only lasted for 1½ hours!!

Thursday found me back at Clock House Dental. My dentist quickly filled my tooth, gave all my teeth a good cleaning, and pronounced me in fine shape! Good for me!

Friday our weather was really hot, and we had every fan going at work. I was glad, as was everyone else, when the day ended, and we could head off for some coolness. I came home and turned on my ceiling fans, and before long, my place was cool. My friend Mark Howden came over, and we were off to Joseph Rountree Theatre to see “How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying”. We had a good time, and the cast was very good.

On Saturday I was out and about in town, doing my errands, into Newgate Market to visit with Teri and Bess Rhodes; however Teri had hurt her back and was home. It was very hot, but at least a breeze was blowing. Lo and behold, I sat to eat a sandwich outside in the market, and this guy asked if he could share my table. Sure, no problem. We got to talking, and he's a Texan, going to A & M for his Master of Urban Planning. He'd been in the Lake District on a course, and was here for couple of days. I showed him around a bit, then we said we'd meet up later for a drink, which we did. He was staying at the home of a girl who was also in the course for the night, but she was leaving the next day. So, of course I invited him to stay at mine.

I picked Nathaniel Proctor (Aggie) up on Sunday at 10am, and we headed over to Selby Abbey
so he could see the the connection between the Abbey and Washington and our American Flag. He found it quite interesting. From there it was back to York to Toby Carvery, as he wanted to try Yorkshire puddings. He had a proper Yorkshire dinner, with roast beef, ham, puddings, roasted potatoes, cauliflower and cheese, broccoli, carrots, parsnips, etc. We were both stuffed, and he thoroughly enjoyed it! From there it was on to Castle Howard and a walk around the house and the gardens. We left here well after 5pm and headed to Yorkshire Lavender, but unfortunately, they were closed by the time we got there. From there we wended our way back. It had been a glorious day, very warm, but there was a gentle breeze. Now, we are planning to have fish and chips tonight!

Hope all is well. By the way, Jean Heard continues to improve! Hooray! Prayers for her and from Fran Bennett, who has just had very serious back surgery. We are all getting so old!

Love,

Denny
