June 11 , 2006

What a lovely week this past one was, with our temperatures in the 70s and 80s.  Of course, several people at work were complaining that it was "boiling" outside.  Then again, in a place where air conditioning is very scarce, it's no wonder!  The shops, offices (including ours), etc. don't have air conditioning.  Needless to say, fans were turning all over the place.  However, everyone is glad to have the warmer weather with us, even though it will only be here for a short while.

On Wednesday I met Teri Rhodes at the Rose and Crown for lunch and heard all about her trip to Rhodes.  She had a wonderful time, and of course she had a lovely tan!  It's always good to be in Teri's company, as I just feel so much better afterwards!  Too soon our lunch was over.

On Friday Lil Sutton and I ventured to the Rose and Crown, and again, we had a great lunch. We got to talking with two guys who were here from Spain working, and of course, they were planning to stay there and watch the opening game of the World Cup, Germany v Costa Rica.  Naturally, they were for Costa Rica, as was I, but it wasn't meant to be.  Lil and I returned to work, and then after work, she came back to my place.  We were getting ready for our annual summer do.

Her husband, Drew, arrived a bit after 6pm, and a bit after 7 we journeyed to the front of the building to meet up with Margaret and John Walker, and off we went in the taxi to the York Marriott.  Lovely weather, and the tables were set up on the back lawn of the hotel.  Centerpieces made of flowers, fruit and vegetables were on display, and there was free lager and wine, of which we availed ourselves!  The bar-b-que (read grilled meat) was being done, and when completed, they called us to the buffet.  We had sausages, steak, pork chops, chicken and veggie burgers, curry potatoes, potato salad, cole slaw, potato wedges and then a selection of cheese, fruit and biscuits.  Very good!  There was a person playing the keyboard and singing for our dinner's entertainment, and after dinner, we adjourned to a room in the hotel for more drinking and dancing.  John, Margaret, Tracey Riby and I left at midnight, and John and Margaret came back to mine for a nightcap. When they were getting ready to leave, Lil and Drew appeared. We bid them goodbye, and then we three went to bed.

Saturday morning, after morning tea, Drew and Lil left for Selby about 10:30 or so.  I did a load of wash, ran the dishwasher, straightened things up, etc.  As World Cup fever has gripped England, I settled down to watch the match of England v Paraguay, which England won 1-0.  I left before the match was over, and it was amazing how deserted the streets of York were!  Everyone was in a pub or at a home watching the match, for sure.

I journeyed over to Selby to Lil and Drew's home, and after a bit of a visit and a cold beer, we headed out for an Indian meal.  It was delicious!  Afterwards, we were all gloriously full, and we returned to their home to just relax and watch tv.

I arose this morning, and we had coffee in their back garden, and the weather was still lovely.  Drew prepared an excellent breakfast, and around 10:30ish I headed back to York.  I had to go to ASDA to pick up a few things, and then I headed home.  I did some more washing, got that done, and I've got my dinner defrosting.

So that is my week.  Hope all is well with you all.

Love,

Denny
