June 17, 2007

What a bad week of weather we have had. It started nice enough, with sunny days, but by Wednesday, that had turned to rainy, humid, warm days, then rain and windy and colder climes. That continued until today, when finally the sun came out again. We had flooding in some parts of Yorkshire, the Ouse River was out of it's banks, as usual, but we did soldier on!

On Monday I took Nathaniel Porter, the Aggie who was here, to the train station so he could continue his trip to Stansted and then on the Germany. He is doing a wood carving course there, then off to Turkey where he will go on a kayaking trip before eventually returning to Texas A & M.

On Tuesday Bill Watson, a former student from my days at EBV in Maracaibo, arrived on a tour group with his wife, Ruth, and their son, Christopher, and a friend of Christopher's from the school, Thomas. They came to my place after work, and then I took them to the Royal Oak. They all seemed to enjoy the pub dinner. Afterwards, I took them to The Shambles for a walk around, and then a drive around the city to point out certain points and places of interest. We finally made it back to their guest house, the Friars Rest on Fulford. As it was across the street from the Light Horseman for a pint and to continue our reminiscences of the good times we had in Maracaibo.

Wednesday I was off work, as I had 2 appointments with specialists at York Hospital. First was at the colo/rectal center for my sigmoidoscopy! Well, you reach a certain age, and these things happen. I'm glad to report that all was reported fine by the doctor. Afterwards was a meeting with an eye specialist over a continuing problem I have with my left eye, of it watering, etc. He said there's no sign of infection and again, one of those things that can come with age, and to just put up with it. Oh the joys of getting older!

Bill called on Wednesday evening to see how all had gone, and how I was. They were having an early night, as they were leaving the next morning to continue their travels around England.

On Friday we had some leaks at work due to the water on the walkway by the building. Now, that's the first time THAT has happened! Fortunately, nothing was damaged, and we were all happy about that. That evening my friends, John Coulson and Kate Addy, called to tell me they are pregnant! Hooray! Kate had passed the first trimester and had had a scan, and all looks good. I was so very happy for them!!!

Saturday was a gray day, and I was in town to go to the post office, run errands, etc. The usual. At 1:30pm Kate arrived, and we had a good chat, waiting for Sally and Bruce Corrie to pick us up. We were all off to the matinee of Wuthering Heights at the York Theatre Royal. It was a very good production, which we enjoyed! Afterwards, there was a cream tea....so veddy British, don't you know, and delicious! We noticed that while we had been inside, it had rained, once again. We left the theatre, and Bruce and Sally took Kate and I back to my place, where Kate had parked. We all bid our adieus, and then I headed inside and got things sorted here at the flat.

Today started off grey, and eventually the sun came out. A chill wind was blowing in the morning, and I got the ironing done (hadn't done it for 2 weeks), and I'm glad that is out of the way!!!

Nothing more to report from this side of the world. I hope for all you who are fathers, that you have had a good Father's Day, and that everyone has had a good week.

Love,

Denny
