Well,
summer definitely seems to be gone here in York. Our
week was one of chilly days and colder nights, some
rain, some wind, etc. Definitely not the Indian Summer
of just a few days ago.
While things continued on at work, my week was certainly
busy. I was out on Tuesday evening to meet Lawton
Henry and Louise Meek at the Red
Lion, as they were taking me to
dinner at El
Gaucho Argentine Restaurant. They'd
never been, but they had heard me speak so favorably
about it, they wanted to experience it with me. We
had a lovely time. I took plantains,
of course, and they enjoyed them, and they marveled
at my speaking Spanish with the waitress. We recalled
our first meeting, our good times together, etc. Just
a really enjoyable time with two lovely people. However,
Wednesday was a work day for me, and all too soon
the evening ended, and we bid goodnight to each other.
On Thursday after work, I met up with Sally Corrie
at Joseph
Rowntree Theatre to see Hooray
for Hollywood by the York
Musical Theatre Company, as I'd won tickets in
a competition in The
Press, here in York. The question
was: Over what city does the
Hollywood Sign look? Surprise! I knew it,
but even more of a surprise, I won! I couldn't believe
my good fortune when I was called. Anyway, we thoroughly
enjoyed the evening, as it was a musical review of
great songs from Hollywood movies. Afterwards, we
headed to the Brigadier
Gerard pub for a drink, and as it
was the night for their pub quiz, we decided to stay
and play. No luck there, though. No, we didn't win.
Afterwards, it was hometime for both of us.
Friday after work I headed to do shopping, get the
car clean, etc. I came home and did mundane things
like wash clothes, put away the shopping, etc. How
exciting! However, I knew I would have a busy day
on Saturday; so just as well nothing was planned for
that day.
Saturday dawned sunny and lovely, which was good,
as my friends, Nicky Laube and Mike Armitage were
getting married! I was off into town to do errands,
etc., and after getting all that done, I came home
and got myself ready for the theatre. Fiona Daniel
and I were off to Joseph Rowntree
in the afternoon for another production by York Musical
Theatre Company, When
The Lights Come On Again. This production
had a much larger cast and featured music from World
War II. Very well done, and throughly enjoyed by one
and all. We came back home afterwards, and I had to
get ready to go to the Minster
Hotel for the wedding party! Nicky
was a picture of loveliness that evening, and Mike's
smile could not have been bigger. What a handsome
couple they made, and how happy they looked; just
glowing! It was a very enjoyable evening.
Today has been a bit chilly, and I got my ironing
done this morning. This afternoon, Dale Donley, Cherie
Federico and I went to see A
Mighty Heart. What a moving and sad movie.
Extremely touching.
So that's pretty much my week. Another one to come
now, and then next Saturday James Hazen arrives from
Houston to visit for a week. I'm looking forward to
that, as he's been saying he was coming since I moved
here. Well, he will make it just before I return to
Texas!
Have a good one, folks.
Love,
